Summary/Abstract: The article will present some problems that Polish sociology is currently facing, although the issues in question could also be crucial for sociology practised in other countries. The problem of noticing and not noticing certain phenomena in sociological research and analysis – as well as not noting some social phenomena occurring in the sociologists’ environment – will be discussed. Some version of Evitar Zerubavel’s cognitive sociology will be used here. It will be essential to indicate the cognitive and linguistic context of the identified problems. The institutional context of the phenomenon of ignoring and overlooking certain problems in the academic world of sociology will also be discussed. Additionally, the general socio-political context in which sociologists are currently operating in the world of the Academy will be presented. This context will be interpreted by means of applying Erving Goffman’s concept of frame trap. Finally, conclusions will be presented with regard to how to deal with the phenomenon of not noticing certain phenomena in sociological research within the institutional environment of the Polish sociology.
