Summary/Abstract: This paper gathers empirical findings regarding the Romanian business market and how performance measures are made within companies. Examines the reasons for low adoption of Balanced Scorecard especially by small companies, and comparative investigation of BSC awareness and use within small and medium companies from both Romanian and UK markets. It will prove that a performance measurement and strategic management system, such as the BSC, is a suitable practice also for small companies and will bring strong arguments on how using this tool will help evolve small enterprise towards reaching their strategic goals efficiently.
