Summary/Abstract: This article will sum up and interpret the laic marriage laws in Transylvania between 1850–1900. Based on the acts we had access to (laws, patents, ordinances, orders, articles of laws, directives) we are going to outline the legislative framework of the Romanian family life, focusing our research on the normative element that is the state. A comparative analysis will reflect aspects of the civil marriage, mixed marriages, religion of the children, tutorship and curatorship, heritage, youngest age to marry, civil majority of women, legitimacy and coming of majority of the children, marriages of the military and reservists.
