Summary/Abstract: In May 1972 the magazine Vlasta, an official journal of the communist-run Czechoslovak Union of Women (Československý svaz žen), published an article entitled Testimony of the Dětřichov Forest, which mentioned a “childbirth camp” for foreign workers sent on forced labour to Dětřichov (formerly Dittersdorf), near Moravská Třebová, under the German occupation. The history of the camp and of these women immediately became notorious nationwide, as Vlasta was the most popular women’s magazine in the ČSSR, published in great numbers. However, the story of the Dětřichov camp was soon forgotten during the years of the “normalisation of society”, last but not least also because the article had a strong pro-Soviet undertone.
