Summary/Abstract: In the present study, the author makes a detailed analysis of extramarital births in Romania, having at his disposal a database with all newborns in the year 2007 and the characteristics registered by the statistical bulletin of live births. The results confirm the hypotheses built on previous, poorer data, namely that the pattern of extramarital births in Romania is not part of the postmodern value system, but part of a premodern one, whereas most of the women who give birth out of wedlock are young girls, below age 20, who do not have at least the compulsory level of education, who come from very poor areas and from particular ethnic communities (rroma, especially). These children are not the result of a rational calculation, but they are conceived either following accidental sexual intercourse, without using contraceptive means, or, not seldom, following sexual abuses of minors and young women.
