Summary/Abstract: This paper addresses the issue of social identification and content interplay concerning three social identities – religious (catholic and orthodox), national (romanian) and european –studied in three social groups: laic orthodox, orthodox clerics and catholics. The main result suggests that there are at least two orientations or positions concerning European integration process. On the one side Romanians, especially laic orthodox and catholics, subscribe for fastening European integration and ecumenism, preserving only a little amount of orthodox dogma precepts in the unified Europe. On the other side, represented mostly by Romanian orthodox clerics, the process of military, political and economical integration is seen as separate from cultural and religious domain where the distinctivity of values and traditional dogma must be preserved.
