Summary/Abstract: The budget deficit has become a specific phenomenon of the contemporary world. The aim of the paper is to identify the effects of the budget deficit on sustainable economic growth in the case of two countries. The period considered is 2000-2017 for the countries Greece and Italy which registered, for the most part of the analyzed period, budget deficits above the European Union average.
