Financial market and economic growth: empirical evidence for Central and Eastern European countries

Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to analyze the relationship between the financial market and economic growth on a sample of six emerging countries, members of the European Union. For this purpose, we will use the OLS estimator and a panel model. The empirical results obtained so far show the existence of a two-way causality between the financial market and economic growth. However, following the use of a VAR model, it turned out that the influence of economic growth on the banking system development is significantly stronger than vice versa.
