Summary/Abstract: The contribution of minorities to the Romanian war effort was often overlooked by the Romanian historiography. The issue of religious equality and emancipation, especially in what the Jewish population in the Kingdom was concerned, has been a decisive topic for the recognition of the independence of the Romanian state since the 19th century (Berlin-1878, Peace Congress). Because the historical data before 1916 did not have information regarding ethnicity, there was no clear situation of the minorities living in Romania. Also, the available data is poor in regards to the contribution of minorities to World War I. In my approach, I focused on two religious groups, who had a more profound recognition and appreciation: The Mosaic and Muslim population on the Romanian territory. Both of them proved, both on the battlefield and behind the front, their loyalty to the Romanian state and people, to the national ideals, and suffered the same dramas and deprivations as the majority.
