Summary/Abstract: Social capital in Poland is regionally differentiated . Family ties, deep religiousness and local community are stronger on the area of historical Galicia. Their sources are strong local ties, continuity of the population, vitality of the traditional family and powerful devoutness of the population. These have resulted in strong support for the young generation by family and local community. Another, related consequence has been significant similarity and co-ordination of local political actions and behaviors. Their effect has been low local political differentiation and durable majorities in local councils. Local authorities have strong political base and stable character, and they are more capable of effective action in the area of local policy and local development. These forms of social capital behavior are originated in the heritage of the past, and they are strengthened by individual and collective benefits, so they are united in one form of life. There are no stimuli to change them due to their functionality, rather to continue and adapt them to new social and political conditions.
