Summary/Abstract: In many cases of territorial analysis of various activities, events, phenomena etc., the necessity of differentiating between intermediary levels appears, between the national and the district one, respectively at the provinces’ level. In this case, after pro‑longed investigations, the conclusion we reached is that the major compartments of Romania are the geographical-historical provinces. These are clearly defined for the east, south‑eastern and the southern part or Romania, while, as the central and the western part are concerned, many uncertainties are encountered, especially in mass‑media, where there is an obvious disagreement between the natural and the human territorial reality, so that names as Ardeal, Ardeal in combination with Transylvania, Banat and Maramureș are being mingled. In order to clarify this matter to a certain degree, two daily newspapers (Adevărul – The Truth and Făclia – The Torch) and two radio broadcasting stations (România Actualități – Romania Actualities and România Cluj – Romania Cluj) have been observed during 2009–2010. On their basis and in accordance with our knowledge, eight geographical-historical provinces are found on Romania’s territory, namely: Transylvania (the center of Romania), Banat, Crișana and Maramureș (the western façade of Romania), Moldavia (east), Dobrudja (south‑east), Muntenia and Oltenia (in south).
