Summary/Abstract: The tumulus „Dalgata mogila” is located nearby the village of Karanavo, northwest from town of Nova Zagora. It has been partially investigated in 1976 due to the digging of the irrigation system.Three graves have been discovered with rich and varied grave goods and belongings dated at the end of Ist century AD and the middle of IInd century AD. Two eagle-shaped plates made of animal long bone or red deer antler have been found in grave № 3. They have been intended specifically for the funeral ritual because the non-accurate manufacturing and the nearby ancient settlement is the most probably place of production. The very corroded swords, daggers and knifes discovered in the same grave are the most suited items that could connect with the eagle-headed plates that suggest they are a part of handle decoration (probably of the pommel). Such decorated weapons are known in Thrace a little earlier V–III c. BC to the IVth century AD. The widespread of the eagle cult in Thrace during the Roman Empire is another factor in representing such hypothesis.
