Summary/Abstract: This article written by the vice mayor of Comănești, himself a great fan of chess, insists on the great roll of the game of chess as an educational instrument. The game of chess, as an educational mean activates and disciplines the whole mental potential being a complex form of mind exercise and a great mean for self‑knowledge and self‑prospective. Romania gave to the world great champions like Elisabeta Polihroniade and the importance of including chess into the curriculum is sustained during the article.Due to the Local Council and the Centre „Europe Direct Comănești” important chess competitions are held in the area during the year: Comănești Trophy, Christmas Cup and Mărțișor (Spring) Cup.
