Summary/Abstract: At the beginning of the article the author gives a definition of God, which is accepted by the representatives of the three major monotheistic religions: Christians, Jews and Muslims. They believe there is one and only one being who is God. God is that being which exists unconditionally, is a person without a body, who is eternal, perfectly free, omnipotent, omniscient, maximally good, and is the creator and sustainer in being of all things other than God. Then the author informs that the provocation for taking up the issue which is concluded in the title of the article is the onslaught on theism by the ‘Four Horsemen of the New Atheism’, as they have been dubbed: Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens, Daniel C. Dennett, and Sam Harris, with assistance from other atheist authors. They claim that one, who is a theist cannot be rational. The author presents in the article a number of arguments against the thesis mentioned by those atheistic thinkers, and then comes to the conclusion that being an atheist is irrational because its proponents ignore the rational basis of theism. And it is not rational to be an atheist, if one is aware that there is a body of evidence and argument which renders probable the proposition that God exists and one does little to evaluate it or rejects it for wrong reasons, or if one does not value discovering whether God exists (for, if he exists, he may well have something of supreme value to offer us.) At the end of the article the author says that it is good to have true beliefs about anything and very good to have true beliefs about very important matters, like God existence.
