Summary/Abstract: True civic engagement, desire, and the ability for solidary community actions are the indicators of the general condition of gender. The article analyses the civic activity of women-leaders of the socially oriented non-profit organizations (SONPOs), their attitude to the high-priority social tasks, and the major social resources of the SONPOs. In the context of the article, it is essential that the non-profit sector is feminized, represented in public opinion as female. Scientific novelty is determined by the use of qualitative research methods-cases with the use of the biographical approach to women leaders of SONPOs, data comparison of the author’s expert survey in 2012 and 2018, conclusions of the case study “Non-governmental organizations in the public sphere”. Based on the classical model of the social capital theory, the author confirms the hypothesis that SONPOs have become a significant agent (resource) for solving socially significant tasks only when a sufficient level of trust-based multiple subject-object relationships both institutional (donor — recipient — resource, society — government — business) and interpersonal relationships is achieved. It is concluded that changes in employment structures and the privatization of social services brought into the civilian sector educated, enterprising and charismatic women-leaders for whom the third sector has become the basis of self-preservation and human dignity, of self-realization and the development of alternative, innovative ways of solving current social tasks.
