For memory of V. S. Memetov: with respect and gratitude

Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the phenomenon of the Russian intelligentsia, as well as the difficulties associated with its understanding. The author points out that for new generations of Russians the values inherent in intelligentsia and the lifestyle of intellectuals no longer have the same attractiveness. Under such conditions, studying the phenomenon of the intelligentsia from the perspective of fundamental science is quite problematic, but it is necessary, since most of our intelligentsia still retained their status — the status of a translator of cultural values, the “conscience” of power, and the ideological stabilizer of the future of our country. In the context of these thoughts, a portrait of the Russian historian, Doctor of Historical Sciences, professor, Honored Worker of Higher Education of the Russian Federation Valery Sergeyevich Memetov, is created thanks to the efforts of which a scientific center for the study of the history of intelligentsia has appeared at Ivanovo State University, for many years conferences have been held annually on relevant topics. The journal “Intelligentsia and the World”, whose chief editor was V. S. Memetov is one of the most respected scientific publications in Russia. Both the center and the journal took a worthy place in the modern intellectual space of the Russian Federation, confirming the high creative potential of the Russian province.
