Summary/Abstract: The present study comparatively examines, with a novel, database-building, Carpathian basin-wide approach, how local population, local government, settlement structure and urban-rural distribution characteristics change in Hungarian-majority areas outside Hungary. Latest statistics from eight countries were used to this comprehensive Carpathian basin-wide analysis of settlement data. Our data comparison shows that the Hungarian-majority settlement areas in the neighbouring countries are very strongly rural compared to the ‘mother country’.
