Images and Words from the Mirror World: Observations of an Internet Project

Summary/Abstract: Subject of study of the article are photo-pictures, presented on the Internet on the project Image.BG, aiming at presenting “original and interesting works by Bulgarian authors relating to the contemporary notion of Bulgaria”. The analysis concentrates upon the ideas and values that the authors invest in the photos and which are used as a starting point for the evaluation of the nowadays Bulgarian reality. The studied works are united in three topics: positive Bulgarian images, negative Bulgarian images and notions of what is specific Bulgarian. Thus the predominating notions of daily life are identified and a conclusion is made that the notion of Bulgarian specifics is decisively influenced by what is typically Balkan.
