Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the results of research into the sense of identity in people in late adulthood living in the Polish and Czech parts of Cieszyn Silesia. The discussion concerns a region which is special due to its religious and cultural diversity as well astraditions of forming multicultural identity. The paper presents the multi-faceted concept of identity, which is developed on the basis of philosophy, psychology and sociology. Identity is a construct which combines an individual system of values with the values of a group which an individual belongs to. A conscious participation in the life of a regional, national, European and global group contributes to forming the sense of identity in people in their late adulthood. The study results show that people in their late adulthood, who live in the Polish and Czech parts of Cieszyn Silesia, have strong bonds with their nations.
