ALASDAIR MACINTYRE’S VIRTUE ETHICS PERSPECTIVE AS A CORNERSTONE FOR SHAPING MORAL NATURE OF ORGANIZATION STUDIES

Summary/Abstract: This article aims to discuss core concepts of moral philosopher Alasdair MacIntyre’s virtue ethics perspective in business ethics area. Through tracing the development of MacIntyrean virtue ethics perspective on organization studies, MacIntyre’s virtues-goods-practice-institution schema is reviewed in the context of virtuous agents, a conducive mode of institutionalization and a conducive environment. This provides an understanding of why some organizations protect their practices, flourish their virtues and stimulate the exercise of their moral agency. Besides, this article evaluates organizational virtue mapping with indicative virtues. In this direction, in order to deal with disconnection between organization studies and business ethics, MacIntyrean virtue ethics perspective is proposed.
