Summary/Abstract: The article presents current features of the world energy sector with its trends such as the increasing energy consumption, energy disparity between producers and consumers and intensified demand and diversification in supplies. Authors offer an analysis of the oil and natural gas consumption in recent years and the perspectives of the development of the EU in the context of the Lisbon strategy - its priorities not only in the energy sector, but in others sectors of economy with their owerwhelming impacts, as well.
