Summary/Abstract: The cultural heritage of the diocese of Subotica and Zrenjanin was formed after the end of Turkish occupation and resettlement of the population. In creating the network of settlements and establishing church institutions the Vienna court had a decisive role. The study deals with the characteristics of churches, chapels and public sacral monuments built from the end of the 18th to the end of the 19th century in the area of two dioceses from the aspect of protecting cultural monuments and folk religion. In that historical period, the late baroque and classicism played a determining role. Most public sacred monuments do not represent unique works of art, they do not have a special artistic value, however, they express the religiousness and taste of the settled catholic population and the attitude of political power at all times towards our sacred monuments.
