Summary/Abstract: Olga Penavin was researching Hungarian dialects in Yugoslavia for more than three decades. She did field work with her students, capturing the still living Hungarian language heritage. The tangible results of her work are many, such as the language atlases of the Yugoslavian Mura region, Baranja, the Sekely colonies, Hungarian language islands in Srem, Slavonia and Backa, and – posthumously – of Banat. Professor Penavin performed data collection, dialectological research and recording of material in the cultural, historical and ethnographic context of the above mentioned areas. The aim of this paper is to examine and present the cultural, ethnographic and pedagogical results of dialectological collecting work on the border of languages and cultures in the daily use of national / minority languages.
