Summary/Abstract: As Kâzım Karabekir, who considerably contributed to the success of the national struggle, was the commander of the 14th Corps in Tekirdağ in 1918 when the Armistice of Mudros was concluded, he was assigned as the commander of the 15th Corps in Eastern Anatolia in March 1919 upon his request. Aiming to delay the stipulated demobilization of the Ottoman army as per terms of the armistice by asserting the geographical conditions of the region, Kâzım Karabekir also intended to prevent the destructive activities of the Armenians in the region. The Erzurum Congress was held under his auspices in Eastern Anatolia, and he was involved in the Turkish War of Independence as the Commander of the Eastern Front where he displayed great success in the rescue of Elviye-i Selase.
