Summary/Abstract: In the second half of the 19th century, a reorganization of public administration occurred due to centralization and modernization, which led to numerous negative consequences for the Székelys. Székely estates could no longer be inherited and were also limited in extent, forests and pastures fell under a new legal rule, the AustroHungarian-Romanian customs war, the lack of industry and railways paired with a demographic boom all led to the disempowerment and poverty of the already poor. As a result more and more chose to emigrate to such extent that at one point the problem of the Székelys became the problem of the nation in general.
