Summary/Abstract: The problem of orthography of religious vocabulary is presented. The changes appearing in the spelling of religious vocabulary in the 20th and 21st century are discussed against the background of the current rules of Polish orthography. The activities of the Polish Language Council and the works of the Religious Language Group are reviewed. The author presents an excerpt from her empirical research referring to the survey conducted among clerics at six seminars (in Białystok, Olsztyn, Opole, Katowice, Kraków and Wrocław). She indicated the spelling rules which cause the greatest difficulties to the respondents and determined the level of spelling skills of the clerics surveyed. The author assessed the correctness of respondents’ answers, referring to the regulations included in the publication Spelling of Religious Vocabulary edited by R. Przybylska and W. Przyczyna (Tarnów 2011). At the end of the article the postulates resulting from the collected research material are formulated.
