Summary/Abstract: The article speaks about the places where a marriage in Poland can be contracted in a valid way in the light of the canon law and the civil law. It discusses the updated law on vi-tal records which gives more flexibility in terms of contracting a marriage outside of the Registry Office, as well as the stance of the Polish bishops on entering into a catholic marriage outside of the church. In their document, Polish bishops state that the usual and recommended place of the celebration of the sacrament of marriage is the church as the holy place which is meant for liturgical celebration. However, they also point out that in extraordinary circumstances the local bishop ordinaries have the right to consent for the sacrament of marriage to be celebrated outside of the sacred place.
