On the Trail of a Life. The Life of István Kedves on the Pages of the Contemporary Newpapers

Summary/Abstract: Researching the history of the 18th and 19th century life of the St. Michael Parish in Cluj I looked into the contemporarynewspapers. In order to be able to write the history of the parish I decided to devide it according to the time of the diff erentparish priests. The activity of each of the parish priests is an important part of the life of the parish. István Kedves was headof the parish between 1831 and 1864. In his time important things were achieved in the life of the church and parish: theemblematic tower ot St. Michael’s church was built. In my research I read many newspapers and periodicals that werepublished in Cluj in the 19th century. „Erdélyi Híradó”, „Magyar Futár” și „Múlt és Jelen” represent the journalism of the 19thcentury, they contain less actual information and news than the newspapers of our times. I found a great amount of importantinformation concerning the activity of István Kedves as parish priest of Cluj. The articles of these newspapers tell us more aboutthe liturgical activity and the everyday life of a mid-nineteen century parish.
