Summary/Abstract: Adolf Hitler took over control in Germany on 30 January 1933 and established a totalitarian regime. This affected justice, too. This important part of the state power became a means serving the purposes of strengthening the new regime and persecuting its opponents. Besides the so called special courts (Sondergerichte) it was especially the VGH that served as the court concentrating on the major part of the activities against the national-socialist control. After the Reichstag had passed the Resolution of 26 April 1942 and Roland Freisler had become the president of the VGH the basic legal principles were violated and the opponents of the regime were cruelly persecuted. Many citizens of the so called Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia who took part in the resistance movement against the occupation of their country were among the victims. It was, therefore, only just that the sentences of VGH were declared illegal after the war. Although the World War II has been over for a long time it is necessary to remember the fact that VGH was an intrinsic part of the nazi terror and played an important part in the perverted plans of the nazis.
