Summary/Abstract: Since the early years of its foundation, Republic of Turkey regarded “Turkish family” and especially “women and children” as two important elements that secure and spread its modern ideology in society, and building a strong, healthy, civilized and as well as an educated nation. With comprehending the role of women and children in the further development of the nation, the new state has attempted to create a new perception of the evolution of Turkish family by removing the symbols left by Ottomans, especially those do not conform to the ideals of the new regime. The new state has modernized Family Law by regulating the rights and responsibilities of the individuals those constitute the Turkish family and enacting several laws such as the primer Turkish Civil Code. Development of family rights and the law is an important step towards the modernization of the country. The aim of this study is to demonstrate the progress in family law and children's rights during Atatürk period in Turkey.
