Summary/Abstract: Purpose: Quality of life (Qol) is undoubtedly important for patient case management. TheIrritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is one of the most common functional gastrointestinaldisorders which disturbs the daily life of individuals and potentially affects emotional statusand quality of life. Visual analogue scale for IBS (VAS-IBS) is a well-known symptom severityrating scale proposed as an instrument which could be clinically used to evaluate theperceived severity of IBS symptoms in patients over time. In this study, we aimed to translate, adapt and validate the VAS-IBS to Romanian language and culture. The translation, adaptation and validation of the Romanian version of VAS-IBS were possible without manylimitations due to some similarities between Romanian and Western cultures. Thus, accordingto our results, the final form of Romanian VAS-IBS can be considered a reliable tool inmeasuring the perceived severity of gastrointestinal symptoms which can be classified by ROME IV as IBS symptoms, as this could also have an increased relevance in the context ofthe associated psychiatric disorders of IBS.
