Usually, the sacred and the holy oppose each other. However, are they incompatible? The catholic Francis Jammes, in Angelus from dawn to the evening Angelus, links the cycles of nature to humble people’s lives, which gives them depth and gravity. The sacred is at the service of the holy. The atheist Bonnefoy, in Poems, finds back the Christian values by returning to the essential and fundamental elements of human condition.
