Summary/Abstract: The aim of this study is a discourse and lexico-semantic analysis of some forms of address and denominations employed in the texts of Christian Orthodox prayers in order to refer to God (the Father and the Holy Trinity) and to Virgin Mary in French. We will illustrate that these forms of address reflect in a discursive way the privileged status of the addressees of the prayer and that they represent lexical units that incorporate dogmatic and docrinaire facts while revealing the Christians’ deep anchorage in their faith, who resort to these forms of address confidently as to the efficacy of their prayers. Our work is based on a corpus made up of texts from the Divine Liturgy, of Akathists to the Mother of God and to Jesus Christ, of the Paraklesis (to the Mother of God), as well as of many other Orthodox liturgical prayers in French.
