Summary/Abstract: The Hungarian Crisis of 1490 represents yet another turning point in the very tormented history of 15th century. The failure of Frederic III and Maximilian I of Habsburg, and that of John Corvinus, the illegitimate son of the late Hungarian King Mathias, to secure the Hungarian throne was to dramatically increase the weaknesses of the Hungarian political system, under the rule of Wladislaw II Jagiello, who was elected and crowned king. In these events a major part, now brought into a clearer light by a new document, was played by Stephen the Great of Moldavia.
