Summary/Abstract: The article considers the main directions of the researches on the Great War in Ukrainian historiography, during the years 1991 – 2016. The investigated issues have been clarified: economical, social, political, captivity of prisoners of war, foreign policy, the history of the legion of Ukrainian Sich Riflemen Halych-Bukovyna Kurin and the course of the military operations, refugees and non-governmental organizations, Russian occupation of Galicia and Bukovina, regionalism, the related “culture of war”. Some vectors of future scientific search were proposed: the evolution of international relations on the Ukrainian lands, the question of military-historical anthropology and the impact of war on all the spheres of life of the Ukrainian society (education, upbringing, family relationships, press and book printing, religion, forms of collectivity and individual everyday life, values).
