Summary/Abstract: The article is an attempt to characterize literary theoretical and cultural views of Stanisław Lem. Basic components of his worldview include the “game” category, which, on the one hand, determines what is accidental (random), on the other hand, the “game” determines a broad philosophical context referring to the questions about the purposefulness (teleological aspect) of Nature and the rules governing culture genesis. Some analogies to the probabilistic concept of the game can be found in Truth and Method by Hans-Georg Gadamer, who finds the similarity of the “game” to the “movement of nature”. According to Gadamer, Nature is a specific pattern of “art-game”. In turn, according to Stanisław Lem, culture is an “anti- -randomness device”, a man’s answer to the not fully known laws/rules of Nature.
