Summary/Abstract: The subject of this text is to outline various attitudes and ways of Polish people living in the Kingdom of Poland to independence from the last national uprisings in the nineteenth century, the January Uprising to the creation of an independent Second Republic. The article is synthetic, because in a short text, aiming to inscribe in the celebration of the anniversary of the 100th anniversary of regaining independence, prepared for the needs of a scientific journal, it is impossible to conduct a more detailed analysis of a number of threads of this long-term and multifaceted issue. Taking up the main research problem, one should remember about the complex demographic and economic structure of the Kingdom of Poland, taking into account clear national and religious divisions as well as the degree of development of national and social consciousness of particular groups and layers inhabiting this part of Polish lands. In my opinion these factors are the most important and determined the attitudes Kingdom of Poland inhabitants of the towards the national cause and their participation in subsequent actions aimed at regaining independence.
