Summary/Abstract: The work of psychologists in the national security system (NSS) which implies institutions such as: the police, the army, prisons, private security agencies, courts, political departments of security or other agencies) is quite different from the psychological work applied in areas out of it, in its tasks as well as in the authorities or ethical standards. Despite the base in the psychological science and principles as their similarities, differences are evident in the need of application of those principles: application in special contexts and aims, which defer from the civilian sector, as well as the legislation that covers those specific sectors, professions, and professionals. That need means understanding and knowledge in the non-psychological sciences related to those contexts, given that psychological principles need to be appropriately used for these specific tasks. This does not exclude the classical psychological (psychotherapeutic) work in the NSS, but is important to point out its different place, authorities, treatment, and content, in case it is used as part of this sector. The aim of this work is oriented to short introduction of applied psychology and scientific sub-branches in psychologists in the NSS, to aid to their appropriate implementation in this sector. Additional upgrading of psychologists in related non-psychological sciences for this sector is important in the form of education and trainings, as well as some procedures of selection, certification, and appropriate legislation additions. Specifics in academic, research and practical role issues and standards will be discussed.
