Summary/Abstract: The article interprets the book Muzułmanie, islam i ja [Muslims, Islam and Me] by Michał Christian, which is an account of his stay in Algeria, where he worked as a specialist in the repair of construction machinery in the late eighties. While the main reason for Christian’s trip was the desire to join his wife – Aleksandra Kasznik-Christian, history professor and scholar working in North Africa – the main impulse to write the account came from the September 11 attacks and Oriana Fallaci’s books. The article aims to deconstruct the Orientalist preconceptions underlying Christian’s vision of Islam and relations with Muslims.
