Summary/Abstract: BREXIT is a phenomenon which evinces a high degree of uncertainty and has serious consequences for the EU citizens. The online content producers have to face a great challenge: How could they represent a future event in images? In order to identify the way in which the press image participates in the projection of the future of the post-BREXIT EU into the collective consciousness, we carried out the content analysis and the semiotic analysis of a 200 image corpus. The content analysis revealed that only 6 % of the images make a direct reference to the future of the post-BREXIT European Union, the others feature BREXIT. The myth developed by the semiotic analysis of the studied images is that of a European Union where there is a gap between decision makers and passive citizens, with no role in the decision-making process. In addition, the analysis revealed the inexistence of a widespread and accepted idea on BREXIT and the lack of a clear and transparent vision of the future of the post-BREXIT European Union.
