GDPR – Opportunities and Threats for Libraries

Summary/Abstract: May 2018 is the moment when a practical period of application of new solutions to protect individuals in the field of access to their personal data began throughout Europe. Despite two years of preparation, until now practically all organizational activities have been late so that we are still in the phase of building a new reality. The article is devoted to an inventory of the most important issues necessary to include in the activities of institutions implemented in order to meet the current legal solutions in the field of personal data protection. Particular attention has been devoted to libraries as public places, where many problems related to the scope of data being processed and their public nature are crossed.
