Summary/Abstract: The paper is devoted to the motif of the Mother of God as a branch from Jesse‘s roots in early Slavonic hymnographic texts. It examines original, paraphrased and translated hymnographic texts with regard to their biblical and patristic origins as well as to Byzantine-Greek hymnographic prototypes. Its aim is to identify an intertextual connection of related passages and to define and interpret forms of the motif in individual texts.
