The Digital Sheet Music Collection at the St. St. Cyril and Methodius National Library: a Bridge Between Past, Present And Future

Summary/Abstract: The significance of old sheet music digitization in the new information environment is noted and the role of multimedia technology as prerequisite for modern and balanced library dedicated to cultural heritage preservation is emphasized. The music collections funds at National Library are briefly described. The goals and various steps of the sheet music collection digitization project, started in July 2019 at Special Collections Department’s Music and Sound Recordings Sector of the National Library, are traced. A special attention is paid to various valuable music sheet titles included, some of the first Bulgarian textbooks on music and collections of children's and school songs from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, as well as to song authors, predominantly school educators and composers. The importance and bridging opportunities expected from new digital sheet music collection at National Library are discussed.
