Summary/Abstract: The modern citation index is one the most important information systems that serve science in the 21 st century. As a result of the information contained within these systems, the scientific and research community, as well as the institutions that finance it, make decisions that define the development of the scientific field and the researchers working in it. The current article presents how the importance of the citation indices indirectly leads to the appearance of fake information systems that imitate their function with the purpose of achieving financial gain. For this purpose, 3 such systems are analyzed: “JIF”, SJIF, and Citefactor.org.
