Summary/Abstract: The author aims to reconstruct the way in which the Communist Party of Romania prepared to take over the government on 6 March 1945. He highlights strategies for attracting new members, creating support organisations, infiltrating trade union, forcefully seizing power at the local level. The author discusses a series of archival documents that supplement the information on the number of members and the organization of the Communist Party in the first months after the events of August 1944.
