A Review on Economic News in The Local Press: The Green Amasya Case

Summary/Abstract: The subject of the study is the way in which the economic news appeared in the press in the 1930s, following the establishment of the Republic and applying the intensive statist policies in the economy. For this, Yeşil Amasya, a local newspaper close to power, was elected. In this study economic news were analyzed with critical discourse analysis method. This study covers the volumes of Yeşil Amasya between 1934-1940. In this context, 43 economy newsposts were examined within this period. The most important result of this study is that, Yeşil Amasya was supporting economic policies of government and held an important role for public in adapting these policies. One another major result is that background and contextual information was lacking in those news. Therefore the information framework , which was presented to the reader, was quite limited to the references and knowledge provided by the news.
