Summary/Abstract: The article discusses two toponyms - ,,cetăţuia” (small fortress) and ,,cetate” (fortress) - located at various points on the territory of the Neamţ County and which can be linked to the existence of fortified archaeological sites. The author identified 23 such locations, some of which have been known since the end of the XIXth century. Based on the existing information, found in the bibliography, but also through the field research, it was discovered that in most cases, where these toponyms are mentioned, prehistoric sites are found with traces of fortification (ditches, walls). Most of these ,,fortresses” are attributed to the Chalcolithic (Cucuteni culture) and Bronze Age, and some of them to the Late Iron Age. Various mapping sources were used to identify them.
