Summary/Abstract: The object of the article are the libraries of Antiquity and in particular those in Ancient Rome. The study examines the structure, purpose and functions of libraries in ancient Rome, as well as the numerous functions of the libraries of Antiquity: an instrument of power, storage of memory, place of study, art gallery and simultaneously a community center and place for individual isolation. Specific attention was paid to the characteristics of the structure, design and arrangement of Roman libraries.
