Summary/Abstract: Despite a cohabitation which had lasted for several centuries, the politological analysis of Austro-Hungarian cultural relations in the postwar period only began in the early 1980s. The very sporadic Hungarian historiographical research has mainly focused on the period between 1945 and 1965, and on the behaviour of Austria in 1956. // The cultural aspects of this network of relations, the extension of which was unique in the whole system of contacts between the Western democracies and the countries of the Soviet block, and played a decisive role in the attempts of the Kádár regime in opening towards the West, have already begun to be explored as well. It is a brief but eventful period of Austro-Hungarian cultural diplomacy which the present study aims to examine.
