Homage to academician Constantin Toma on his 85th birthday

Summary/Abstract: The author evidences various aspects of the life and didactic, scientific and managerial works of academician Constantin Toma: his 46 year‑long didactic activity with the students of the Faculty of Biology: lectures, laboratory works, applied studies in the open: scientific activity, developed along more than 60 years, materialized in the publication of an impressive – 750 – number of studies, (treatises, books of maps, exercise books for practical papers, scientific articles, writings about the history of biology, popularization works, reviews), issued in reputed, both Romania and international journals and Publishing Houses; managerial activity, as director of the Botanical Gardens of Iași and of the Institute of Biological Researchers. Starting with the year 1978, he was awarded four times the Prize of the Romanian Academy, he was elected Doctor Honoris Causa of four Romanian universities and Chevalier of the “Teaching Merit” Order and Medal, and received the title of Professor emeritus. On behalf of his prestigious didactic, scientific and managerial achievements, in 1991 he was elected member of the Romanian Academy and, in 2011, honorary member of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Moldova.
